WOODSRUNNER SCHOOL / PREPARE

PREPARE

Come Ready.

A good Woodsrunner experience starts before you ever pull through the gate.

You do not need to know everything before you come. You do not need years of experience in the woods, and you certainly do not need to own every piece of outdoor gear somebody says you ought to have.

What you do need is a little preparation.

Know where you are going. Know what you are attending. Check the weather. Bring what you need. And if something is not clear, ask us before you come.

We have put the information you need in one place so you can spend less time wondering about the little things and more time looking forward to your time in the woods.

Whether this is your first visit to Woodsrunner or you have trained with us before, take a few minutes to prepare.

Then come ready to learn.

PACKING & GEAR LISTS

What Should I Bring?

You do not need a truckload of gear to learn how to spend time in the woods.

You do need the right things for the course you are attending.

Our Packing & Gear Lists will show you what is required, what we recommend, and what you can probably leave at home.

Before you start buying equipment, check the list for your course.

And if you are not sure about something, ask us.

We would much rather answer a question than see you spend good money on something you did not need in the first place.

STUDENT FAQ

What Else Do I Need to Know?

Sometimes you do not need another long page of information. You just need an answer.

What happens if it rains? What should I wear? Where do I park? Can I come by myself? Are beginners welcome? How physical is the training? What happens after I register?

Our Student FAQ answers many of the questions students have before coming to Woodsrunner.

If your question is not there, get in touch with us.

There is nothing wrong with asking a question. That is part of preparing well.

YOUR COURSE STARTS BEFORE YOU ARRIVE.

A Good Day in the Woods Starts at Home

Before you head to Woodsrunner, take a few minutes to make sure the little things are taken care of.

Check Your Course Information

Know the date, arrival time, location, and what you are coming to do.

Check the Weather

We train outdoors. Look at the forecast and prepare for the conditions we are actually expecting.

Check Your Gear

Go through the Packing & Gear List for your course and make sure you have what is required.

Check Your Route

Know where you are going and give yourself enough time to get here without rushing.

Ask Questions

If something does not make sense, ask before you come.

None of this is complicated.

It is simply good preparation.

And when those things are taken care of, you can concentrate on why you came in the first place:

To learn. To practice. To gain experience. And to spend some good time in the woods.

ALREADY REGISTERED?

Start With Your Course Information.

If you have already registered for a Woodsrunner course or experience, start with the information for that particular program.

Every course is a little different. Arrival times, gear, clothing, physical demands, meals, overnight arrangements, and other details may change depending on what you are attending.

The information for your course always comes first.

After you have reviewed it, use the Prepare resources for anything else you need.

NEW STUDENT INFORMATIONWhat to Expect at Woodsrunner

You do not need to arrive already knowing the skills you are coming to learn. Woodsrunner courses are built around instruction, participation, repetition, questions, and time in the field.

Expect to spend much of your day outdoors. Depending on the course, you may work on uneven ground, use field equipment or tools, practice skills more than once, and receive direct feedback from instructors.

Dress for the weather, come ready to participate, and arrive with questions. Your course information will provide the specific arrival instructions and requirements that apply to your class.

PACKING & GEAR LISTSBring What Your Course Requires

Your course-specific packing list is the final authority on what to bring.

As a general starting point, plan for weather-appropriate clothing and footwear, drinking water, personal medications, a notebook, and anything listed in your registration or course information.

Before purchasing equipment for a course, review the course list first. If you are unsure whether something is required or suitable, contact Woodsrunner before buying it.

STUDENT FAQCommon Questions Before You Arrive

What happens if it rains?

We train outdoors. Unless conditions create a safety concern or you are told otherwise, come prepared for the weather expected during your course.

What should I wear?

Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and footwear suitable for natural terrain and the activities described for your course.

Can I come by myself?

Yes. Many students attend Woodsrunner on their own.

Are beginners welcome?

Review the description for your course. Many Woodsrunner courses are designed to meet students where they are, and you never need to pretend to know something you came here to learn.

What happens after I register?

Review the registration confirmation and the information supplied for your specific course. Those instructions take priority over general Prepare information.

SOMETHING DOESN'T MAKE SENSE?

Ask.

We would rather answer your question before you come than have you spend money on something you do not need, leave something important at home, or spend several days wondering about something that could have been cleared up with a quick conversation.

Tell us what you are attending and what you are unsure about.

We will help you figure it out.
