MORE THAN A CERTIFICATION

Developing Instructors Others Can Trust

The Woodsrunner School Wilderness Instructor Certification Program exists to prepare knowledgeable, capable, and trusted wilderness instructors who can confidently teach others in a safe, professional, and meaningful way.

This is not simply a skills course.

It is an instructor development program designed to shape the way you think, communicate, teach, lead, and serve.

Throughout the program, candidates develop sound judgment, strengthen leadership, gain meaningful teaching experience, receive individualized mentoring, and build the confidence required to instruct others responsibly.

Every lesson, field exercise, evaluation, and teaching opportunity has one purpose: to develop instructors who can confidently prepare others for time in the outdoors.

THE WOODSRUNNER JOURNEY

TRAIN. EXPERIENCE. LEAD.

Everything in this program follows a simple progression.

TRAIN.

Build a strong foundation of wilderness knowledge, instructional methods, leadership principles, and safety practices.

Learn not only how to perform a skill, but why it works, when to use it, and how to teach it responsibly.

EXPERIENCE.

Knowledge becomes confidence through meaningful experience.

Candidates spend significant time practicing skills, solving realistic problems, observing experienced instructors, participating in teaching opportunities, and learning from both success and failure.

Experience develops judgment. Judgment develops confidence.

LEAD.

Leadership is the ability to influence others through competence, confidence, humility, and character.

By completion, candidates are expected to communicate effectively, teach responsibly, lead professionally, and continue growing as lifelong students of the outdoors.

THE FOUNDATION

What Is Wilderness Readiness?

At Woodsrunner School, Wilderness Readiness is more than possessing outdoor knowledge.

It is the ability to apply sound judgment, adapt to changing conditions, solve problems, and confidently use wilderness skills when they matter most.

Readiness is developed through preparation, experience, continual learning, and responsible instruction.

As a Wilderness Instructor, your responsibility extends beyond teaching individual skills. Your role is to help students develop confidence, judgment, and the ability to spend meaningful time in the outdoors safely and responsibly.
