POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Wilderness Skills Instructor, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, hands-on training to our diverse group of participants. Your expertise in survival techniques, outdoor navigation, and wilderness ethics will inspire and empower individuals of all ages and backgrounds to connect with nature and develop self-reliance in the wilderness.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaching Wilderness Skills: Lead engaging and informative workshops, courses, and wilderness excursions, covering topics such as shelter-building, fire-starting, water purification, foraging, and safety.

  • Safety and Risk Management: Ensure the safety of participants during all activities by implementing rigorous risk assessment and adhering to established safety protocols.

  • Curriculum Development: Contribute to the development and improvement of our wilderness survival curriculum, incorporating the latest techniques and industry best practices.

  • Individualized Instruction: Tailor instruction to meet the unique needs and skill levels of each participant, offering personalized feedback and support.

  • Environmental Stewardship: Promote and instill responsible and ethical wilderness practices, emphasizing Leave No Trace principles and sustainable outdoor ethics.

  • Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with fellow instructors and support staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Proven experience and expertise in wilderness survival techniques, outdoor navigation, and backcountry living.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.

  • A passion for teaching and empowering others in outdoor settings.

  • Relevant certifications such as Wilderness First Aid (WFA)

  • Flexibility to work in variable weather conditions and remote locations.

  • A commitment to safety, professionalism, and environmental stewardship.
