LAST DITCH FIRE
CREATING FIRE BY FRICTION
Jun. 22 - 23, 2019
Sep. 14 - 15, 2019
Due to the likelihood of failed equipment or having the lack thereof, it is just as imperative to know how to create fire by friction.
LAST DITCH FIRE - Creating Fire By Friction
It is important to always carry multiple ignition sources while venturing into the backcountry, but due to the likelihood of failed equipment or having the lack thereof, it is just as imperative to know how to create fire by friction.
There is more to creating fire by friction than just the friction itself!
Using our 4 P’s of instruction students will learn the priorities of friction fire, the principles behind it, the practical skills necessary, and a personal assessment. In this two day course, we will cover how to source the materials needed from the natural environment, how to effectively create the fire kit, the techniques required to create adequate friction for an ember, and the natural tinder sources to create the fire.
What should I expect?
Spend time sourcing natural materials available in the Eastern Woodlands as well as covering the materials that can be sourced in other ecosystems. Use these sourced materials to make an adequate friction fire kit and use this kit to create embers using friction techniques.
What is covered in this course?
The history of friction fire
Why it is important to have the knowledge to create fire by friction
Tips to make life easier in the wilderness with fire
