Paddling is a recreational activity that should be safe and enjoyable for everyone. It is a fun, invigorating and exhilarating sport, that comes with responsibility for you and your paddling partners. Statistics show that a number of accidents could have been avoided if precautionary measures were followed. Boating safety is constantly changing and improving. You are responsible for knowing and keeping up with any new boating laws and regulations.This course will provide you with an easy to follow, common-sense approach to paddling as well as the necessary tools to enjoy it safely.

What is covered in the course? 

Our 2 1/2 day comprehensive introduction to canoeing and kayaking course covers the fundamental skills and safety techniques needed to paddle on your own. You'll learn the essentials of recreational canoeing and kayaking, including how to transport, launching techniques, paddling equipment, canoeing and kayaking safety, reading weather conditions, storage and more.

Participants will meet at Base Camp on day one, our paddling instructors will explain canoe and kayak design, boat fit, paddling terminology, clothing choices and safety equipment. On day two participants will be bused to a local lake where they will learn launching techniques and basic paddling strokes. Our guides will lead participants step by step through each learning objective, helping them hone and refine their abilities throughout the course. You'll learn the strokes necessary to confidently control your boat, turn faster and navigate obstacles more efficiently.On day three, students will participate in a river excursion, including an obstacle course challenge.

All necessary paddling equipment is provided.


Eligibility Requirements: Students must be at least 12 years old. All students younger than 18 must be accompanied by a paid parent or legal guardian. 


*Synthetic clothing dries quickly and is the best choice for outdoor pursuits. Please do not wear cotton clothing. When wet, cotton rapidly robs the heat from your body and takes a long time to dry. We also recommend you dress in multiple layers, allowing you more flexibility to comfortably respond to the weather conditions and your level of exertion.
