BECOME YOUR OWN WILDERNESS ''MacGYVER"

IMPROVISATIONAL TECHNIQUES

Necessity is the mother of invention. Ancient Greek philosophers knew that a need or problem encourages creative efforts to meet the need or solve the problem. In the field of psychology, there is a term called functional fixedness. If you are functionally fixed, you only see an item for its ‘intended’ use. Think of the power that can be harnessed if you understand that not having the ‘needed’ tool at hand does not mean that you can not find or make a useful alternative.  This is a fun and fulfilling course in which you can find and grow your inner ‘MacGyver” mentally to brainstorm, ad-lib and invent much of what you might need.

What is covered in the course?

This course combines hands-on application and skills development, with developing the mindset needed to improvise in any situation. Students will utilize both modern and natural materials to create items that could be needed or useful in a crisis or meet needs within the wilderness.

In  a crisis situation it is vital that you be able to think quickly, adapt to constant change, and make use of what you have at hand.  Our instructors will demonstrate the mindset needed to see beyond what our expectations are for a variety of items, from man-made to those that exist in nature.  The creative skills learned in this course can not only be used to make a variety of tools needed to survive and flourish in the woods, but also to improve everyday living situations.
